An MOT is an annual legal inspection required for most UK vehicles older than 3 years. It ensures your car meets DVSA roadworthiness and environmental standards.
You can take your test up to one month (minus a day) before your current certificate expires. This allows you to keep the same renewal date for the following year, effectively giving you a 13-month certificate.
The test itself takes around 45 minutes to an hour. We recommend dropping your car with us in the morning and we will give you a call once it is done, usually by end of day. That way you are not sitting around waiting and we are not rushing the job.

There are four categories: Dangerous (immediate fail, car cannot be driven until repaired), Major (also a fail, but if your previous certificate is still valid you can drive directly to a repair centre), Minor (car passes but the fault needs attention soon), and Advisory (car passes, items to monitor that are not serious yet but could become so).
Driving without a valid MOT can lead to a fine of up to £1,000 and may void your insurance. The only exception is if you are driving to a pre-booked MOT appointment.
